Good Friday weirdness

I've been working on our Good Friday service over the last few weeks, which I decided to based around the theme of "By his stripes we are healed". I've been working on a order of service, videos, background music for the scripture readings and what have you.

Tonight I finished the final video of the program, which we'll show after communion. Then I began to work on choosing the background music for the reading of Isaiah 53, where "by his stripes we are healed"" comes from. So I grab my nearest bible (it happened to be the New American Standard translation) and began to read through the passage while the "Mary Comes to Jesus" music from The Passion of the Christ movie played. (I wanted to see if it could be timed right.) When I got to verse 12, I stopped.

Why?

Therefore,
I will allot Him a portion with the great,
And He will divide the booty with the strong;
Because He poured out Himself to death,
And was numbered with the transgressors;
Yet He Himself bore the sin of many,
And interceded for the transgressors.

Y'all!?! The word booty is in the bible!

I typically read from the NIV translation, and so even though I've read this passage a number of times, I've never been able to makes this acclamation. The NIV translates the word as "spoils". I think the NAS is much funnier, which I'm sure is exactly what Isaiah intended.

I never thought I would find a connection between the bible and the reality show So You Think You Can Dance, but I just did.

I just decided today that our Good Friday service was going to be "A Service of Healing and Wholeness."

I spent Sunday afternoon in our family farm's shop, refinishing a dresser I found at a local antique store. I'm a farmer's daughter, yes, and certainly what some would call a "country girl". for what is small is not at all

It was such a small thing. But it didn’t feel small. And then I realized… that was sort of the point. Lots of us have our online “community” of friends. People we interact with on facebook, twitter, etc, that we have not met in real life. We might someday, but for now, we’ve connected online likely because of similar interests or perhaps political views. Either way, it’s a community. It’s different from those in real life, of course, but it still feels faithful to call it a community. A new and large part of my online community comes from one thing we all have in common: the subscription to a magazine called Christ and Pop Culture . Part of subscribing is a membership to a private Facebook group where we interact on all things Jesus and pop culture related. From there, friendships are “formed” and twitter followings have begun.
